eCom celebrates successful go-live of digital assessment platform for ECITB

Following our successful contract win with the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), we’re delighted to announce that the rollout of our proven digital assessment platform, eNetAssess, is now live and already helping to radically transform the ECITB’s assessment and certification processes.

Indeed, following a smooth and successful launch, the ECITB are seeing strong exam volumes, with nearly 400 exams completed in the first month.

The ECITB is the employer-led skills body for the engineering construction industry in Great Britain. Working in partnership with government, the education sector and employers, the ECITB helps ensure that workers in the industry have the necessary skills.

Each year, the ECITB invests around £28 million to:

  • enhance skills across the engineering construction industry;
  • support growth through workforce training; and
  • tackle labour shortages and skills gaps.

To support the delivery of its wide range of qualifications, the ECITB uses a digital registration, awarding and certification system. This system supports the management of its learners, candidates, Awarding Organisation, training providers (both UK and international), and products.

Now, eCom’s state-of-the-art digital exam platform, eNetAssess (known internally within the ECITB as eAssess), is playing a key role in supporting question management, assessment creation, and the delivery of a wide range of assessments for the ECITB.

The platform is a digital assessment system for creating, automating and managing bespoke tests and exams in a secure environment. It provides both practice (formative assessment) and exam (summative assessment) testing, with features including booking management, test creation, question authoring, centre management, scheduling, authentication, invigilation (including eProctoring), and verification, through to final reporting, analysis, and certification.

A key element of this implementation was the integration with ECITB’s own Booking Management System (BMS), providing a seamless user journey for learners and training providers while reducing administrative burden. Looking ahead, this will support the ECITB’s needs as it looks to deliver MCQ, practical assessments as well as eProctoring, in line with The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) standards. We’re also working with the ECITB to enable secure delivery of assessments via centre-based kiosks, ensuring robust and consistent experiences for all learners.

eCom is delighted to be playing our part in supporting the ECITB with its new exam platform, with its added automation significantly reducing administrative burdens, improving overall functionality for learners, approved centres and training providers, ultimately helping the ECITB achieve its vision of a trailblazing engineering construction industry where critical infrastructure, energy security and net zero ambitions are achieved.

eCom CEO, Wendy Edie, commented, “It’s fantastic to see eNetAssess now live and making a real difference for the ECITB. This marks an exciting milestone in our partnership, and we’re proud to be enabling a more streamlined, secure and scalable approach to assessment - one that supports both the organisation’s goals and the needs of learners across the industry.”

Chris Mann, Director of Learning and Assurance at the ECITB, said: “Our collaboration with eCom is a significant step forward in modernising our assessment systems. The new platform not only improves our operational efficiency but also offers a more accessible and user-friendly experience for our learners and training providers. We’re excited about the improvements this brings to our qualification delivery and the positive impact it will have in helping engineering construction workers across the UK gain the vital skills they need.”
