eCom training supporting new children’s panel members

Children’s Hearings Scotland (CHS) is inviting applications for new volunteer Panel Members across the country, offering people the chance to play a life-changing role in supporting Scotland’s children and young people.

Panel Members are at the heart of the Children’s Hearings System, listening carefully and making legal decisions with and for children to ensure they feel safe, valued and respected. It’s one of the most fulfilling ways to give back to your community – and it doesn’t require specialist knowledge, just qualities like compassion, empathy, trust and good listening skills.

Every new Panel Member is fully supported with high-quality training and guidance. Delivered digitally through eCom’s eNetLearn platform, this training makes it easy for volunteers to build their knowledge and skills at a pace that fits around work and family life.

So far, 4,720 volunteers and volunteer managers have benefited from the training, with a remarkable 94% approval rating. Feedback has been outstanding, with one volunteer calling it:

“Best online course I’ve seen for some time. Will help all Panel Members to refresh approach in preparing for hearings.”

A rewarding role with real impact

Becoming a Panel Member is about more than training or process – it’s about knowing that you are making a real difference. Volunteers often describe the role as hugely rewarding, both for the children they help and for the personal growth they experience along the way.

Applications are now open in selected areas, including Argyll & Bute, Glasgow, Dundee, Fife, Highland, Dumfries & Galloway and more.
