Going That Step Beyond
At eCom, understanding how organisations really work is just as important as understanding the technology that supports them. Our team are naturally curious people who enjoy getting under the skin of a challenge, especially when a delivery model is complex or the needs of users are not immediately obvious.
Rather than making assumptions, we take the time to immerse ourselves in our customers' environments, observing processes first-hand and, where possible, stepping into the shoes of the people who will ultimately use the solution.
Whether that means attending assessment sessions, visiting farms operating under strict biosecurity controls, or spending time with frontline users, our team are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure we fully understand the realities our customers face.

Whether that means attending assessment sessions, visiting farms operating under strict biosecurity controls, or spending time with frontline users, our team are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure we fully understand the realities our customers face.
“ Understanding how organisations work is just as important as understanding the technology that supports them. ”
These experiences not only help us deliver better solutions today but also shape how we continue to evolve our platform for the future.
Here are just a few examples:
COO Emma Dickson was concerned that assessors involved in an electrical examination programme might be reluctant to move away from paper-based processes. By attending practical assessment sessions in person, she gained first-hand insight into the challenges which assessors faced when using standard tablet devices in demanding working environments. Working closely with our UX team, these findings informed design improvements that resulted in a successful and well-received rollout.
CTO Andrew Rourke took a similarly hands-on approach when developing an application for use within the poultry industry. To truly understand the conditions users faced, he was asked to visit a chicken farm. What seemed like a straightforward site visit quickly became an eye-opening experience when he realised that accessing the facility required a full pre-medical screening process before attendance could even be approved.
Once medically cleared, strict biosecurity procedures had to be followed on-site, including shower-in and shower-out protocols, changing into sterilised PPE and facility-approved clothing, and adhering to carefully controlled movement processes involving chemical foot baths and sanitised footwear. Every measure had been designed to minimise the risk of transmitting Bird Flu between farms and it was crucial to adhere to regulations.
Experiencing these conditions first-hand proved invaluable. It enabled us to design a solution that genuinely worked within the realities of the environment while supporting the industry's efforts to reduce the risk of disease transmission.
“ The best solutions come from understanding the realities our customers face. ”
These sorts of experiences provide us with valuable insights that cannot be captured through documentation alone. By seeing how our platforms are used in the real world, we gain a deeper understanding of our customers' needs and can continue to tailor future enhancements around genuine user requirements.
