It Never Felt Like a Transaction

A chat with Jacqui Jenkins (Higher Education Consultant, formerly a Programme Lead at British Council)

During her time working with the British Council, Jacqui Jenkins partnered with eCom Learning Solutions to develop a system that would help counsellors clearly demonstrate and evidence their knowledge. It was a complex piece of work, balancing structure, usability, and evolving requirements - but for Jacqui, what stood out most was the way eCom worked.

‘It felt different from the beginning’, she recalls; ‘there was a real willingness to listen, to understand what we needed, and to shape things around that. It didn’t feel like we were being given a fixed product - it felt like it was being built with us’.

As the project developed, that adaptability became even more apparent. Jacqui knew that if things ever needed to change direction, eCom wouldn’t resist, and would always be responsive, practical and easy to work with. On one occasion, this responsiveness was particularly important when urgent changes were needed to live content due to a sensitive political climate.

‘There was a situation where we had to remove content quickly’, Jacqui explains. ‘eCom handled it within hours. There was no delay or drama, just immediate action. That kind of agility really stays with you’.

Beyond the technical delivery, Jacqui also highlighted the personal nature of the relationship as something that set eCom apart.

With eCom, you felt known. Wendy and the team were accessible and genuinely engaged. You weren’t just another client in a system - you were part of a conversation. It never felt like a transaction; it felt like a a collaboration.’

She also reflected on the leadership and culture behind that experience.

There’s a confidence in how they work, but also a warmth. That combination is quite rare, and it made a big difference to how the project felt day to day.

Now as a consultant and adviser, Jacqui continues to work across global higher education networks and looking back at her time with eCom, she sees the work as part of a wider conversation about learning itself.

‘We talked quite a bit about what learning actually means’ said Jacqui. ‘Is it about time spent in training, or is it about whether people can actually apply what they’ve learned in real situations? There has to be an acknowledgement that people learn in different ways and that’s where eCom’s approach stood out’.

Thank you Jacqui – we really enjoyed working with you!
